Amy Schumer Got Her Annual Mammogram 'Because' of Olivia Munn’s ‘Bravery’ Around Her Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Munn opened up about her breast cancer treatment on 'Good Morning America' earlier this week

Amy Schumer is checking up on her health, all thanks to Olivia Munn.

The Trainwreck star, 42, revealed on her Instagram Stories that she got her annual mammogram screening after Munn opened up about her breast cancer diagnosis on Good Morning America on Thursday, May 16.

“I love you @oliviamunn. I just got my annual mammogram because of your bravery,” Schumer wrote over a photo of the Newsroom actress on the red carpet. “Schedule yours today.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control, a mammogram is the process in which an x-ray is taken of a woman’s breast to flag down any early signs of breast cancer. The CDC noted that mammogram screenings can detect breast cancer “up to three years before it can be felt.”

Munn first revealed in March that she had been diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer after doctors found luminal B, a fast-moving, aggressive cancer, in both of her breasts a year prior. In order to treat the cancer, she had four surgeries in the ten months — including a double mastectomy — and was put on medication to suppress the production of hormones that caused luminal B to grow.

“The hormone suppression therapy is brutal and it gave me next level debilitating exhaustion,” Munn, who shares son Malcolm Hiệp, 2, with John Mulaney, recalled on GMA. “I was just in bed all day long, all day long, and my quality of life was so minimal and I wasn’t able to be there for my baby.”

She shared to the outlet that she decided to get a hysterectomy and ovariectomy in order to get her energy back up. Her doctor, Munn said, also planned to get her started on another drug to suppress cancer producing hormones in other areas of the body.

“It’s so tiring,” the star, recalled. “These drugs are so tiring, and I know I’m gonna stay aggressive. I know I’m going to do it.”

Schumer, meanwhile, also recently had her own health scare, revealing in February that she was diagnosed with Cushing syndrome — a hormonal disorder that happens when too much cortisol (the primary stress hormone) is inside one's body for a long time. According to the Mayo Clinic, possible symptoms include weight gain, high blood pressure and bone loss.

The standup star said she went to the doctor’s office days after fans began questioning why she had a "puffier" face during her promo tour for season 2 of Life & Beth.

"While I was doing press on camera for my Hulu show, I was also in MRI machines four hours at a time, having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up,” Schumer said at the time.

“So finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I'm healthy was the greatest news imaginable,” she added.
