Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes Talk Rob Marciano's ABC Exit: 'We Know What It's Like to Have Your Life Upended'

The couple discussed the April 30 exit of their "friend and colleague" from ABC News on the latest episode of their 'Amy & T.J. Podcast'

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes are sharing their sympathy for Rob Marciano following his exit from ABC News.

On April 30, PEOPLE confirmed that the former ABC News and Good Morning America meteorologist, 55, was no longer in his position at the company. Since then, people who have worked with Marciano have spoken to PEOPLE of his alleged temper, while other sources have defended him as "professional" and "positive."

And speaking about the news on the latest episode of their iHeartRadio podcast, Amy & T.J. Podcast, Holmes, 46, noted how somebody had recently "reminded" the couple that “nobody leaves ABC News in a pretty fashion.”

“It's a tough situation,” agreed Robach, 51. “We have walked down that road and it's not an easy one … And I think he might still be going through a divorce. So we know what it's like to have your entire life upended, career and personal life … And we both have known Rob for a long time.”

Robach and Holmes launched their podcast on Dec. 5, 2023, exactly one year after ABC News President Kim Godwin put them on hiatus from their roles as GMA3 co-anchors as news of their workplace romance surfaced.

Holmes went on to describe Marciano as “one of the best guys I've ever seen in the field covering weather,” adding that while he didn't "know all the details" of the reason behind his departure: “Whatever it is, we hate to see somebody who's been a friend and colleague for a long time end up in this place, this position to be talked about the way he's being talked about to some degree.”

“We do know what it's like to have those headlines, to be the subject of clickbait,” continued Robach. “And that's a tough position for anyone to be going through, especially someone who is a father of two. I know how much he loves his kids. He talks about them all the time. So it's just tough to see those headlines almost, for the sake of his family, his kids, him, all of that. So our heart goes out to him.”

“I do applaud all the work he has bravely done over the last decade or so, and we wish him the very best,” added Robach.

Marciano became ABC News' senior meteorologist in July 2014 and has since continued his work reporting the weather on Good Morning America.

In June 2021, Marciano’s wife of 11 years, Eryn, filed for divorce. The pair share two children together: Daughter Madelynn, 12, and son Mason, 5.

Robach and Holmes addressed their own exit from ABC News on the debut episode of their podcast last year.

"Today is a special day,” Robach said during the launch episode. “It’s almost apropos that we would have this podcast air on December 5th because December 5th last year, exactly one year ago today, was the day we were told not to come into work."

"We never got a follow-up call to say come back," laughed Holmes, while Robach added, "That’s true. It was the opposite.”

At the time, Robach had not confirmed her separation from her actor husband Andrew Shue, nor Holmes from his attorney wife Marilee Fiebig.

Days after Robach and Holmes' made their red carpet debut as a couple in December 2023, PEOPLE revealed that the couple’s ex-spouses had found love together in the wake of their respective splits.
