Amy Robach Reveals Her Ex-husband Andrew Shue Never Gave Her An Engagement Ring

Amy Robach has opened up about a relationship tradition that wasn't upheld in her last relationship. In a recent episode of the "Amy & T.J." podcast, the former news anchor claimed that her ex-husband, Andrew Shue, didn't ask her to marry him properly with an engagement ring.

Robach and her new partner, T.J. Holmes, were subject to intense media scrutiny after their affair was made public, leading to their eventual ousting from "GMA3" and subsequent divorce from their then-partners.

The former "Good Morning America 3" co-host shared on her podcast that her ex-husband never put a ring on her finger when they got engaged.

She noted that the engagement ring from her first husband, Tim McIntosh, cost about $3,000 but that she "didn't even really have one the second time."

"My second one didn't exist," the 51-year-old news anchor stated, referencing her second engagement to the "Melrose Place" alum.

Robach went further to express her gratitude about Shue not putting a ring on her finger, labeling it a blessing in disguise as their relationship has since hit the rocks following her affair with T.J. Holmes.

"I also think this is a cautionary tale because we do know that close to 50 percent of all marriages end in divorce," she added.

She Says Engagement Rings Have No Resale Value

Having talked about the "cautionary tale" of engagement rings, the former broadcast journalist seemingly downplayed the resale value of the jewelry, stating it as a reason why she would not advise such an investment.

"If you think you've got some valuable property in a ring, no matter how much you spent, wait 'til you have to try to sell that said ring. It is pennies to what you actually purchased," she shared, further explaining that these "beautiful pieces of jewelry don't appreciate" in value.

"In fact, it's like buying a car," she added. "The second you try to sell it after you've purchased it, it goes down significantly in value."

Robach and Shue's 13-year marriage was dissolved in 2023 following the finalization of her divorce.

A former friend of the ex-couple told the Daily Mail at the time that it was "an awfully sad end to what was a great marriage," adding that "Andrew was so into her."

"But at least they worked out their split through mediation rather than some ugly legal battle. And they sorted out custody of Brody," they added.

Robach recently documented how much loss she suffered as a result of her broken marriage with Shue.

According to Page Six, the former "Good Morning America 3" co-anchor shared in a January episode of "Amy & T.J." podcast that she lost many of her "worldly possessions" and had to sell her personal effects.

"You can lose your job, you can lose your reputation, you can lose friends, and you can lose most of your worldly possessions and still be happy," Robach shared, inciting some puzzling looks from Holmes.

"You lost most of your 'worldly possessions?'" Holmes quizzed while chuckling.

"There was a lot of selling going on, a lot of giving away," she explained.

"It was a great yard sale," Holmes quipped. Robach then seemingly shaded Shue when she told Holmes that "you don't really know someone until you divorce them."

It comes after Robach previously weighed in on why she and Holmes are not leaping to walk down the aisle despite sharing that she'd love to marry him.

"I wanna marry you. I don't need to. I want to be married to you," Robach told Holmes.

"I mean, it's interesting having gone through this now, both of us twice," she explained, referring to their respective divorces. "And, I know that can be joke material, but I actually think it's been such hard-earned, God, I mean, just I've learned so much through going through both of those relationships and now being in this one with you."

The mother of two added, "Interestingly, now, with the choice totally in front of us to get married or not, we're kind of on the fence and laughing about it because it doesn't matter because we know we want to be with each other. We want to marry each other. We don't have to necessarily get married because of what that represents."

T.J. Holmes Gets 'Frustrated' He Is Not With His Partner

Holmes confessed his frustration when separated from his partner, Robach, during an earlier episode of their "Amy & T.J." podcast.

The 46-year-old said: "I have said this to you plenty of times. I get not pissed [but] I get really frustrated when we are, not apart, but actually apart and traveling apart."

Holmes admitted feeling a sense of responsibility to protect and support Robach, adding: "We have been through so much together. I always get an anxiety, I get fear that [if] we're not together, I'm not there with you, frankly, to protect you, to help you if anything goes on. I just don't like being apart from you."

Holmes clarified that his discomfort stems not from missing her but from a deep-seated concern "that something is going to happen."

"It is not a matter of missing you," he added. "I miss you when you go to the bathroom. I hate when we travel apart for long periods."
