Grandma Mary Duggar's Death Shocked the Family

"Counting On" 's Grandma Mary Duggar died in June, and the Duggar family turned to celebrating her life as they mourned her death.

But Amy Duggar, one of Marry Duggar's grandchildren, was not seen at the family's gathering. Now the "Counting On" star is speaking out about that tough day in her life.

Tragic Circumstances

Grandma Mary Duggar died June 9 after falling in a swimming pool and drowning. She was 78.Arkansas coroner Roger Morris explained what happened.

"Duggar slipped and fell into the pool and drowned. Her daughter Deanna discovered her body and alerted authorities, who pronounced her dead at the scene."

Grandma Duggar's birthday was the same day her great-granddaughter, Ivy, was born to her granddaughter, Jessa (Duggar) Seewald.

The Duggar Family Paid Tribute To Her

Soon after Mary Duggar's death, the Duggar family posted a message on their Facebook page:

“She is greatly loved and will be missed so very much! She lived a tremendous life as a follower of Christ, a wife, a devoted mother, a loving mother-in-law, and a much-loved grandmother. Proverbs 31:10-31 describes the virtuous woman, indeed she personified these beautiful verses with her life.”

And Anna Duggar, Josh Duggar's wife, wrote on her Instagram page:

"Great-Grandma Duggar went to heaven today to be with Jesus! 😭 What an awesome woman of faith and such a loving example of God’s love. She was a true soul-winner and loved everyone she met, telling them to turn from sin and trust Jesus for salvation! Miss her soooo much and we cherish each moment we were blessed to spend together! Lots of tears being shed here — grateful for all the prayers!"

Amy Duggar Chose Not To Be On TV During That Time

Amy Duggar says the only reason she wasn't seen celebrating her grandmother's life was because she wanted to grieve in private.

"It's ok to request to grieve in private.. it's ok to not want to be shown. I was a mess that day, and even though it was a celebration of her life it was still probably the hardest day I've ever had."

Duggar continued:

"Not a day has gone by where I don't think of her, she wasn't just a Gma to me but more of a best friend. She was so so loved... and I'll cherish every memory I have of her."

Star Preferred To Grieve 'In Private'

Amy Duggar had supporters on social media after her simple tweet: "It's ok to grieve in private."

"Tonight's episode broke my heart all over again. I cried so much silently so no one would hear it see my tears. Continued prayers for you, your mom and the entire family. Stay blessed Amy," wrote @ladysandra44.

Other people wrote that they thought it was inappropriate to have a funeral on TV. Either way, people do grieve in different ways, and that includes reality TV personalities. Let's move on.
