Amy Duggar Says People 'Should Be Compassionate to Everyone' in Wake of Derick Dillard's Tweets

Amy (Duggar) King is encouraging her followers to extend love and compassion to everyone, even if they may not see eye-to-eye with their lifestyle.

The Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars alum took to Twitter on Wednesday to share an uplifting message with her followers.

“You might not agree with someone or their lifestyle but you SHOULD be compassionate and show God’s love regardless to everyone,” Amy, 31, tweeted.

Amy’s tweet comes nearly a week after Derick Dillard — who is married to her cousin, Counting On star Jill (Duggar) Dillard — tweeted his opinions on 17-year-old Jazz Jennings, who identifies as transgender and is the star of I Am Jazz, which also airs on TLC.

Dillard engaged in an extensive back-and-forth conversation with Twitter user @_mastercthulhu, saying, “I pity Jazz 4 those who take advantage of him in order 2 promote their agenda, including the parents who allow these kinds of decisions 2 be made by a child. It’s sad that ppl would use a juvenile this way.”

“Jazz is being taken advantage of, as part of a larger agenda. I really have nothing against the kid and wish him all the best in life. I just hate seeing him used this way,” he added.

In response to Amy’s tweet on Wednesday, @_mastercthulhu applauded Amy for being respectful to those whose lifestyle she may not agree with.

“This is what I was trying to say to Derick. It’s okay that you don’t agree with the trans community, thats your opinion and that’s fine. But you can’t bully and be mean to others this is coming from an atheist! I’m glad you understand what it means to be a good Christian, Amy,” the user responded.

“I have friends that are gay and I still love them as a person,” Amy replied. “Thank you for following.”

After Dillard made his most recent comments about Jazz — he also tweeted about her in August when he called her reality show “an oxymoron” for being a “reality show which follows a non-reality” — TLC released a statement.

“We want to let our viewers know that Derick Dillard has not participated in Counting On for months and the network has no plans to feature him in the future,” TLC said on Saturday.

“We want to reiterate that Derick’s personal statements do not reflect the views of the network. TLC is proud to share the story of Jazz Jennings and her family and will continue to do so,” the statement continued.

Jazz herself responded indirectly to the controversy, writing on Saturday, “In the face of constant ignorance and hatred I prefer to disregard negative opinions and continue moving forward with love.”
