Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams are in talks to join Taika Waititi’s next movie, Sony 3000’s Klara and the Sun.

Waititi has been attached to the project since the spring, with the film adapting the novel from Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go author Kazuo Ishiguro. The newsletter The InSnieder first reported the news of Ortega boarding the project, while Deadline broke news of Adams’ casting.

Ortega has a full slate, having recently completed Beetlejuice 2, while she’ll be filming season two of Netflix hit Wednesday in the coming months. Her feature Miller’s Girl arrived in theaters Jan. 26. Last year, she starred in Scream VI, and made waves by opting not to return to the Spyglass franchise for a seventh installment.

Adams will next appear in Marielle Heller’s Nightbitch from Searchlight. She is a six-time Oscar nominee for roles in films such as Vice, The Fighter and Doubt.

Ishiguro published Klara and the Sun in 2021, with the project told from the point of view of Klara, a robot companion. Ortega will play the robot, while Adams will play a mother who purchases it for her teenager.

Adams is repped by Linden Entertainment, WME and Sloane Offer and Narrative. Ortega is repped by CAA, Viewpoint and Jackoway Austen.
