First look at Amy Adams' West End debut in 'The Glass Menagerie'

A first look at Amy Adams in her West End debut The Glass Menagerie has been released.

A revival of Tennessee Williams' acclaimed play, the show opened for previews on 23 May with opening night scheduled for 31 May.

Six-time Oscar nominee Adams takes on the role of Amanda Wingfield, a Southern belle who has been abandoned by her husband.

Adams is joined in the play by Paul Hilton and Tom Glynn-Carey who portray Wingfield's son at different stages of his life.

The play is taking place at The Duke of York Theatre and is set to run until the 27 August.

One of the most acclaimed actors of her generation, The Glass Menagerie represents Adams' first appearance on the West End stage.

She previously performed in a revival of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods in New York in 2012, which marked her first stage credit for 13 years.

After a number of minor roles across film and TV, Adams initially broke through with a supporting appearance in Steven Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can where she played the love interest of Leonardo DiCaprio's character.

Three years later, in 2005, she received her first Oscar nomination for her performance in Junebug.

She has since gone on to star in the musical Enchanted, the religious drama Doubt, Micky Ward biopic The Fighter and Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master.

Adams has also been cast as Lois Lane and appeared as the character in Man of Steel, Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Some of her more recent acclaimed roles include her portrayal of Lynne Chaney in the comedy Vice, her lead performance in Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals and her first lead TV role in Sharp Objects.
