NBC is eyeing a return to New Amsterdam hospital: The network is developing a sequel series centering on Max’s adult daughter Luna Goodwin, written by original series creator David Schulner, our sister site Deadline reports.

Tentatively titled New Amsterdam: Tomorrow, the potential offshoot will be set 30 years in the future and will explore the role of artificial intelligence in advancing medicine as Luna “steps into her father’s role as Medical Director of New Amsterdam Hospital,” per the official description.

Viewers were first introduced to grown-up Luna in the New Amsterdam series finale, when it was revealed during the closing minutes that the woman now running the hospital and addressing the staff was actually Max’s daughter in a flash forward. Molly Griggs (Servant, Prodigal Son) portrayed Luna in that episode, but it is currently unclear if she will reprise her role for the spinoff. Her TV dad Ryan Eggold, who played Max and served as a co-executive producer on New Amsterdam, is also not currently attached to the new series.

When the New Amsterdam series finale aired in January 2023, Schulner told TVLine that concluding the show with Luna taking over the hospital was a full-circle moment.

“You end where you begin. Max in that auditorium on his first day was where we started the show, so it just felt so natural to end the show with the next medical director on her first day,” Schulner said. “Having that connection, her being inspired by Max to take this job just felt satisfying because it’s as if it was planted from the beginning.”
