Amie Harwick was an American writer and marriage and family therapist who died at the age of 38 on February 15, 2020. To pay for her education, she initially worked as a Playboy model and dance performer. After finishing her education, she became a marriage and family therapist.

Harwick was a very popular figure in West Hollywood. Furthermore, she appeared on podcasts, TV, and her YouTube channel to discuss topics about her work. Her book, titled The New Sex Bible for Women: The Complete Guide to Sexual Self-Awareness and Intimacy, was published in 2014.

Harwick’s ex-boyfriend, Gareth Pursehouse, murdered her in 2020 by throwing her off a balcony. This incident took place at the therapist’s home in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Even though she was rushed to the hospital, she failed to survive. She was once engaged to comedian Drew Carey, but the couple called it off in 2018.

On February 22, 2020, the CBS News show 48 Hours aired an episode titled The Life and Death of Amie Harwick, which showcased the life of the late therapist. Furthermore, it even explained how she passed away.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis of The Life and Death of Amie Harwick reads, “An investigation into the death of a Hollywood therapist; former fiancé TV host Drew Carey calls for updated laws.”

How did Gareth Pursehouse kill Amie Harwick?

According to the Guardian, the 45-year-old Gareth Pursehouse broke into Harwick’s home in February 2020. He then waited several hours for his ex-girlfriend to arrive. As soon as Harwick arrived, Pursehouse strangled her and punched her. The therapist had filed restraining orders twice against this man.

Amie Harwick tried to fight back; however, Pursehouse threw her off the balcony. This ultimately led to her death. In a conversation with PEOPLE, Deputy District Attorney Victor Avila said that Harwick’s murderer was obsessed with her. “The evidence showed he was obsessed with Amie Harwick. He felt entitled to her,” said Avila.

After her passing, her friend, Robert Coshland, remembered her. He said that she chose that profession due to personal experiences. Robert Coshland said, “She was an outspoken advocate for women. She would talk about these kinds of statistics about women being injured and killed by boyfriends. She became a statistic of something she actively talked about and lectured and helped people with all the time. It’s just doubly, triply tragic.”

Furthermore, even Amie Harwick’s ex-fiance Drew Carey opened up about her passing on The Talk @ Home in April 2020. He said, “After Amie’s murder, I took a week off. Really, I couldn’t function. My first day back we taped the high school show for ‘Kids Week.’ It was all high school kids. It was my very first show back, and everybody knew what happened to me. And so I took time during the break to talk to these kids”

He further said, “I wish he never did it. I wish he never met her. When you forgive people that doesn’t mean you have to hang out with them either.”

Amie Harwick and Drew Carey met in 2017 and soon got engaged. However, in 2018, they called off their engagement.
