‘America’s Got Talent’ Prodigy Set to Sing National Anthem at Trump’s Inauguration

Some of you may remember Jackie Evancho from Season 5 of America’s Got Talent, when at the age of just 10, she wowed audiences with her amazing and powerful singing voice. Now 16, she’ll be center stage once again, but this time for a presumably much bigger audience. Evancho has been tapped to perform the national anthem at Donald Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, and she stopped by the Today show to talk about it. But the inauguration won’t be Evancho’s first time singing for a president. She sang for Barack Obama at the National Christmas Tree lighting in 2010.

“It was amazing. He is so kind. He pulled me aside so I could meet him and I had such a great time. I couldn’t wait to do it again,” said Evancho.

Given the attention this election has garnered internationally, this may be the biggest television audience for which Evancho has performed. This is going to be a huge stage for her, and guest host Dan Caine was quick to remind her of this, quickly followed by asking if she gets nervous. She said she gets nervous for everything, but doesn’t have a trick to get rid of those nerves.

“I suck it up. I don’t really have a trick,” Evancho said, adding, “I just go for it.”
