PREVIOUS, Feb. 15: Following its pickup by Amazon Freevee in 2022 after its cancellation on Showtime, American Rust is now set at Prime Video where it will premiere its second season. American Rust: Broken Justice (new S2 title) will launch with all ten Season 2 episodes on March 28, exclusively on Prime Video in the U.S., UK, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Additionally, Amazon has added eight new cast members for Season 2 (see below).

Starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney, American Rust: Broken Justice takes us back to the fictional small town of Buell, Pennsylvania. Del Harris (Daniels) and Grace Poe (Tierney) try to rebuild their lives after the harrowing events of Season One. Season Two picks up with a string of seemingly unrelated murders, hinting at a much larger conspiracy that threatens everyone in this small, tight-knit town.

American Rust has a history. It initially was ordered straight-to-series at USA Network in November 2017, but a few months later, the network opted not to move forward with it. At the time, sources said the order was contingent on the producers finding a big star for the lead, which didn’t happen. It then moved to Showtime, with Daniels attached to star and executive produce, where it aired for one season. The network announced in January 2022 that it would not be renewed. Freevee picked up the drama in June 2022 following its cancellation by Showtime.

Based on Philipp Meyer’s critically acclaimed novel, the first season of American Rust premiered on Showtime, exploring the tattered American Dream in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania through the eyes of police chief Del Harris. Harris becomes compromised when the son of the woman he loves (Tierney) is accused of murder, and he is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him.

In addition to Daniels and Tierney, returning Season 1 cast includes David Alvarez as Isaac English, Alex Neustaedter as Billy Poe, Julie Mayorga as Lee English, Mark Pellegrino as Virgil Poe, Rob Yang as Chief Steve Park, and Kyle Beltran as Detective Fisher.

Joining the cast for Season 2 are Luna Lauren Velez (Dexter) as Detective Angela Burgos, Marc Menchaca (Ozark) as Vic Walker, Nick Sandow (Orange Is the New Black) as Mike Orr, Britian Seibert (A Murder at the End of the World) as Cynthia Frazier, Christopher Denham (Billions) as Russell Wolff, Amelia Workman (FBI) as Rinna Bransford, Leon Addison Brown (The Knick) as Chief Bolt, and Sara Lindsey (High Desert) as Maya Park.

American Rust: Broken Justice is executive produced by Dan Futterman, Adam Rapp, Jeff Daniels, Paul Martino, Michael De Luca, Ivan Schneeberg, David Fortier, Nick Nantell, Katie O’Connell Marsh, and Elisa Ellis.

American Rust: Broken Justice is produced and distributed globally by Boat Rocker.
