“I’m Hugh Hefner. You might think you know all about me — the magazine, the mansions, the parties, the women — but you don’t know the half of it,” a narrator begins in the first trailer for Amazon’s American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story — and EW has the exclusive debut of the preview.

What follows is a look into the series, available April 7 on Amazon Prime Video, that will provide insight into that wild life of the Playboy magazine founder — described in the trailer as a pioneer, provocateur, father, bachelor, rebel, activist, visionary, playboy, and legend — addressing censorship, sexual freedom (and repression), race, and much more along the way. (And yes, a number of bunnies appear, too.)

“This is my story,” the narrator concludes, with a playful addition, “or at least how I remember it.” Watch that all unfold above.

The 10-episode series will also provide unprecedented access to never-before-seen archive footage and personal scrapbook collections, according to the official synopsis, chronicling Hefner’s six decades with the brand he created and highlighting “its impact on global culture and history.”

“Presenting the dual narrative of Hefner’s personal and professional lives, intertwined with the evolution of the country he sought to change,” the synopsis continues, “this 10-episode series dives beyond the glamour of Marilyn Monroe’s 1953 nude centerfold into Hefner’s fights for and impact on free speech, civil rights, women’s rights, and more.”

Matt Whelan (Go Girls) plays a young Hefner, with Stephen David executive producing, and Hefner’s son, Cooper, taking on the role of series spokesperson.
