American Music Award Nominations 2022: Bad Bunny Leads With 8; Beyoncé, Drake and Taylor Swift Grab 6 (Full List)

Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny led the pack with eight nominations for ABC’s American Music Awards, announced Thursday morning, while Beyoncé, Drake and Taylor Swift each got six.

The fan-based awards include nominations for several powerhouse performers, but overall the wealth was spread across 40 artists on the list who received their first nomination.

Dove Cameron, Gayle, Latto, Måneskin and Steve Lacy were each nominated for New Artist of the Year.

On the flipside, two nods for Elton John make the British legend the longest-recognized artist in AMA history, having earned his first nomination in 1974.

Bad Bunny’s nods include his first for Artist of the Year. He will face off with Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Drake, Harry Styles, Adele and The Weeknd. Swift is the current record-holder for most wins in this category with six. She also holds the record for most AMA wins of all time with 34.

BTS took home the top prize last year.

Beyoncé and Swift will also be head-to-head for Favorite Female Pop Artist and Favorite Pop Album.

Should he win in all eight categories he’s nominated in, Bad Bunny would join Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for the most awards by an artist in a single year. He is also up for Favorite Touring Artist, Favorite Music Video, Favorite Male Pop Artist, Favorite Pop Album, Favorite Male Latin Artist, Favorite Latin Album and Favorite Latin Song.

This year’s show adds several new categories, including Favorite K-Pop Artist, the first-ever AMA category dedicated to the K-Pop genre, along with Favorite Afrobeats Artist, Favorite Rock Song and Favorite Rock Album.

Fan voting for most of the awards is now open, either via VoteAMAs.com or Twitter. Voting for Favorite K-Pop Artist will open on Nov. 1.
