American Idol Meets The Wizard of Oz in Season 22 Promo: Who Gives the Best Performance?

Ahead of American Idol‘s upcoming 22nd season, the judges are taking a stroll down memory lane (by way of the Yellow Brick Road) in a technicolorful new promo.

Released on Friday, the video casts Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and host Ryan Seacrest as iconic characters from The Wizard of Oz. And while the boys are sort of dressed like Dorothy’s travel companions, Perry is once again the only judge who fully commits to the bit. (Seriously, it’s like Disney Night all over again.)

Rocking a pair of ruby slippers, Perry & Co. revisit the hometowns of some of Idol‘s most successful alumni — including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert — as well as the island paradise that gave us Iam Tongi, the winner of Season 21. (“Texas, Oklahoma, Hawaii? Oh my!”)

Perry, Bryan and Richie joined the American Idol family when the competition series relocated from Fox to ABC in 2018; this marks their seventh season on the judges’ panel. Seacrest, meanwhile, has hosted Idol since its very first episode in 2002.
