'American Idol' alums Gabby Barrett and Cade Foehner are expecting a baby girl: '#TheNextIdol'

"American Idol" is responsible for creating music careers and soon ... a new life?

Gabby Barrett and Cade Foehner, two former contestants who met while competing in Season 16, are expecting their first child, a girl, they announced to People magazine and confirmed Sunday on their Instagram accounts.

"I have the most amazing Wife in the world," Foehner wrote. "I can’t possibly come up with strong enough words to honor her as she has honored me in giving me a baby girl!"

Barrett added: "And then there were three."

A comment from the official "American Idol" account congratulated the couple, adding "We can’t wait to meet #TheNextIdol!!!!"

Barrett and Foehner, who finished in third and fourth place respectively, became engaged in March 2019 and married that October, becoming the first "American Idol" couple who met while competing together to tie the knot. Their announcement also appears to be the first expected child for an "Idol" couple.

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for the show for further comment.

Other relationships have stemmed from the reality singing competition: Season 3 runner-up Diana DeGarmo married Season 5's seventh-place finalist Ace Young in 2013, though they competed on separate seasons of the show and met as cast members in Broadway's "Hair" revival. Young proposed to her on the "Idol" stage in 2012.

Season 16 winner Maddie Poppe and runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson revealed during the show's finale that they were dating and have now been together for more than two years. Kelly Clarkson revealed on "Watch What Happens Live" in 2015 that she and Season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini briefly dated after the show ended.
