‘American Horror Story’ Premiere Recap: Meet the Neighbors

Wednesday’s premiere of American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare revealed the driving engine of the much anticipated new season. For Season 6, the show adopted “dramatic reenactments” of the story of Shelby (Lily Rabe) and Matt (Andre Holland).

Shelby said in an interview, “Our friends used to tease us that they didn’t like socializing with Matt and I because we were too perfect.” During the reenactments, Shelby was played by Sarah Paulson and Matt was played by Cuba Gooding Jr.

The two decided to leave Los Angeles and move to a rural town where they found an old farmhouse that looked beautiful to them. But to any horror buff, it looked like a perfect place to be killed.

They soon ran afoul of some poor backwoods types trying to buy the same property. After being spooked and terrorized, they brought Matt’s ex-cop sister, Lee, to stay with them.

Despite the added protection, their house was soon taken over by torch-wielding weirdos. Shelby decided to drive away from the spooky house but not before running over a character played by Kathy Bates and stumbling onto a party where the main attraction was scalping someone.

American Horror Story airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
