American Horror Story: Delicate Recap: Look Who’s Stalking

The second episode of American Horror Story: Delicate might have been titled “Rockabye,” but there would be no sweet dreams for Anna. As she continued down what she hoped would be the path to motherhood, she was given a whole lot more to fear than weird cravings and morning sickness.

Picking up where “Multiply Thy Pain” left off (catch up here), the police showed Anna surveillance footage that proved no one but Dex had come in or out of their apartment building at the time when she’d awakened to an intruder. Maybe the medication she’s on had made her imagine it, the detective suggested. The following day, Anna glimpsed Ivy across the street — and worse, the actress had a pimple. At Siobhan’s office, Anna was surprised to learn she had gotten a Gotham Award nomination — a surefire precursor to an Oscar nod, her rep said. But Siobhan & Co. were going to have to majorly rehab Anna’s image if she hoped to have a shot in hell of winning. In the meantime, Siobhan wanted her star client to start taking mysterious vials of “B12.” OK, then!

Calling the fertility clinic, Anna was reassured that Miss Preecher was harmless, just a kook who felt that IVF was murder. Dr. Hill then told Anna that she had 11 days to go before she should take a pregnancy test (no matter how much puking she did). At home, Anna was so freaked out reading about how witches run Hollywood (on Miss Preecher’s social feed) that she stabbed Dex in the face. When he suggested that she take a pregnancy test, she reminded him that it hadn’t been two weeks yet… only when she looked at the calendar, somehow it had been. OK, then! Cut to: The test was positive! They were expecting… and Sonia was phoning Dex. At the couple’s next appointment with Dr. Hill, his best advice was to avoid any and every kind of stress.

When Anna filled in Siobhan, she was thrilled — her client’s pregnancy was going to be great for their Oscar campaign. Siobhan had a surprise for Anna, too: She’d obtained for her the dress that Madonna had worn to the Academy Awards. Unfortunately, when they went into the bedroom to admire Anna’s reflection, the warning on the mirror was still there; it wouldn’t come off. And their rendition of Madge’s “Sooner or Later” caused the mirror to shatter. That evening at the Gotham Awards, Anna was posing for the paparazzi when her limelight was stolen by a rival actress in her category. And apparently, her stalker was the worst kept secret in showbiz. On a trip to the bathroom, Anna did her best to cover her zit… but wound up peeling off a little layer of skin. She also ran into a handsy fan… who wound up being so badly injured that Anna left her bleeding out in a pool of her own blood on the floor. Rough night!

Mind you, it all turned around, albeit briefly, when Anna won the Gotham Award (presented by Zachary Quinto). Accepting her statuette, Anna was stunned to see in the audience the fan that she’d left for dead… and Miss Preecher… and Dex making out with Sonia… and his late wife. Vomiting ensued. When Anna came to, Dex allowed a paramedic to sedate his frantic wife against her will. The next time she awakened, Siobhan was singing her “Rockabye Baby” in bed and telling her that she must have hallucinated the fatal encounter with the woman in the bathroom. A day later, Talia welcomed Anna and Dex to her place in the Hamptons, where they’d be watched over by bodyguard Kamal. Given that the house was made of glass, Anna noted, they could also be watched by anyone who happened by.

In the kitchen, Anna found a photo of Dex, Talia and Babette with his late wife. (Lord, are they all in cahoots?) In the still of the night, Anna woke up hearing whispery sounds coming from the basement. Kamal checked it out, but there was no one there. Maybe some yoga would chill out Anna? Seemed not; she experienced a strange pain that only worsened. On the way back to the house, she even started bleeding. Anna tried to call Dex from the hospital but no luck. Ivy, who looked familiar to Anna when she checked in on her as a nurse, performed an ultrasound but refused to let the patient see the screen. Scarier still, Ivy left to find a doctor as Anna miscarried. When Dex finally got there, Anna told the doctor that Nurse Ivy had performed an ultrasound. But, he informed her, there was no Nurse Ivy at the hospital. Dun-dun-dunnn!
