'American Crime Story' Teaser: John Travolta Puts Cuba Gooding On the Spot

Stop what you’re doing: The first footage of Ryan Murphy’s highly anticipated O.J. Simpson limited series American Crime Story is here. Based on the book “The Run of His Life: The People V. O.J. Simpson” by Jeffrey Toobin, the limited series is a look at the O.J. Simpson trial told from the perspective of the lawyers — including John Travolta as Simpson’s defense attorney Robert Shapiro. In this teaser, Travolta — transformed via makeup and a brushed-back hairpiece — informs his client (played by Cuba Gooding Jr.) that he needs to ask him the same question he asks all his clients… but we’re left hanging before hearing the actual query. (It’s gotta be “Did you do it?”, right?)

Travolta does his best to replicate Shapiro’s deep, somewhat gravelly voice (you can hear the original in this interview from 2012), and while he doesn’t quite nail it, there’s no doubt that his physical resemblance is on point:
