'American Crime:' Connor Jessup on Teens Being a 'Difficult Demographic'
The cast of ABC’s drama American Crime is comprised of veteran actors — such as Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, and Lili Taylor — as well as up-and-coming young talent like Connor Jessup.
Jessup and Taylor talked to us at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour about what it’s like to have a storyline center on teenagers on the small screen.
“Teenagers are a very difficult demographic to represent on TV. It has this plague of annoying teenagers in a lot of different TV shows. I won’t name anyone in particular,” Jessup said. “I don’t think that it happens in this show. I don’t think that’s me, or Joey [Pollari] or Trevor [Jackson].”
Jessup and Taylor agreed that American Crime does an amazing job of portraying teenagers and certain aspects of their lives.
“John [Ridley] and his team treat teenagers as people,” Jessup said. “They treat them as complex, intricate, broken, strong people, and I think that it makes the working experience incredibly exciting.”
