Amelia: Field Day of the Past this weekend, 'Track Lights and Family Delights' 3-day event

AMELIA — Field Day of the Past at Redfield Farm is this weekend. The three-day event is loaded with more activities than you can shake a stick at. The “Track Lights and Family Delights” program will entertain all ages.

Mountain Highway Bluegrass Band will headline the musical performances this year and play every hour on the hour beginning at noon on Saturday and Sunday until closing time at 6 p.m.

Central Virginia Antique Tractor Pullers Association has a full schedule of pulling lined up for Saturday and Sunday. New to the Heritage Village this year, Spencer Bolejack will share survival skills, and Luck Conner will offer oxen-cart rides near the 1829 pioneer camp.

Visitors can observe demonstrators tatting, knitting and spinning. The Rocking M Regulators will spice up the event with their cowboy skits, and the Blacksmith Shop will be operating throughout the weekend.

AGLand premieres this year where children can shell corn, enjoy Freckles and Friends Petting Zoo, visit Richland’s Creamery ice cream truck, and watch Amelia 4-H's first rabbit show.

Field Day of the Past also has horseshoe pitching and cornhole competitions, arts and crafts, face painting, small engine and antique tractor displays, pony rides, a mechanical bull, educational displays, a car show, a log cabin, a consignment sale, gold panning demos, a WWII vehicle display, historical exhibits and more.

The Army National Guard will oversee a bouncy house, rock wall and an obstacle course, and Woody Hedgpath will create amazing sculptures with his trusty chain saw.

That's not all folks... take in Jeff Robbins’s musical performances and pork ‘n bean guitar making workshops, a Wild West Medicine Show, rope making, chuck wagon and branding demonstrations, the Virginia High School Rodeo, Leslie Davis’ animals, Bud Whitten’s mule drawn wagon rides, and a carnivl with rides and games.

A church service will begin the day of family fun on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. on the Sound Stage. Finding something to eat will be easy since there will be over a dozen food vendors.

The Field Day of the Past show ground is at 11404 Circle Dr. in Amelia, five miles east of Amelia Courthouse on U.S. Route 360. Show times Friday, September 15 through Sunday, September 17 are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily with truck/tractor pulls beginning at 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday.

At the gate, admission each day is $20 per adult, $15 for seniors 65 and up, and children 12 and under get in for free. Discount tickets are available online for $18 per adult each day. Advance block tickets are available for $150 for ten single day tickets until noon on Thursday, September 14. Call 804-741-8468 for details.
