Amazon’s VP of Public Relations for the Studios and Digital Video Corey Shields exited in May after three years with the streamer.

We hear from those close to Berger he was blown away by the Amazon opportunity with the choice to depart Amblin a difficult one given the EVP’s reverence for Steven Spielberg and the execs at the company as well as the studio’s next chapter.

Berger came to Amblin in September 2019 from 20th Century Fox where he was involved in such pics as their Oscar winning blockbuster Bohemian Rhapsody, The Shape of Water, The Greatest Showman, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, Deadpool 2 among others. Prior to Fox, Berger led communications for DreamWorks Animation, working closely with its Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg until DWA’s acquisition by Comcast/NBCU in 2016. Previously, Berger served in a number of senior corporate communications roles at 21st Century Fox and its corporate predecessor, News Corporation.  From 2008-2013, he was VP of Corporate Communications for News Corporation and, following the Company’s separation into two separate entities, was elevated to SVP of Corporate Communications at 21st Century Fox.  He also served as a VP of Fox Interactive Media, News Corporation’s digital media group.  Prior to News Corporation, Berger held a number of PR and Communications roles in the media group at Yahoo!, Inc, and began his career in New York at the PR agencies Edelman Worldwide and GCI Group

Berger declined to comment. Amazon confirmed the internal announcement about Berger’s hiring.
