Amber Ruffin & Jenny Hagel’s Straight To Cards Promotes Justin McGriff

EXCLUSIVE: Straight to Cards, the production company set up 18 months ago by Amber Ruffin and Jenny Hagel, has upped Justin McGriff.

McGriff, who was a creative executive at the company, which has an overall deal with Universal Television, has been promoted to Vice President.

It comes after Ruffin set up her latest scripted project at Peacock. The Late Night with Seth Meyers writer is developing an adaptation of You’ll Never Believe What Happened To Lacey, the book she wrote with her sister Lacey Lamar, for the streamer.

McGriff is a producer and executive with roots in late-night comedy. Beginning his television career at Late Night with Seth Meyers, where he first met Ruffin and Hagel, McGriff became a supervisor on the show before helping to launch The Amber Ruffin Show in 2020. He became a producer on the show in 2021.

He also helped develop Ruffin’s previous scripted project, Non-Evil Twin, which was a pilot at NBC.

His mission at Straight To Cards is to “make cool shit, with nice people” and he reports to Ruffin and Hagel.

Ruffin said, “Since the moment we met Justin, we knew we had to work with him. He’s been a stand out at Late Night with Seth Meyers and The Amber Ruffin Show and with his help we’ve put together a truly outstanding slate. The man is gold.”

Hagel added, “Justin is a rare type of human who is amazing at everything he does. If he decided tomorrow to become a heart surgeon, within a week he’d be America’s best heart surgeon. But instead, for some reason, he has agreed to run our company. And we are so, so lucky to have him.”

McGriff said, “I am thrilled to step into this new role with Straight to Cards. Working alongside Amber Ruffin and Jenny Hagel has been a dream come true, and I look forward to developing even more exciting projects with the company.”
