Amber Heard Withdraws Request for Temporary Spousal Support From Johnny Depp in Domestic Violence Case

Amber Heard is dropping her request for temporary spousal support from Johnny Depp – because she says it’s distracting from the “real issue of domestic violence”

Heard’s lawyer filed a declaration Monday to withdraw the actress’ request for temporary spousal support, which previously would have been addressed during Friday’s restraining order hearing.

In the court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Heard, 30, states that she feels her request for spousal support is being twisted in the media and taking away from the real issue of domestic violence. She says it’s being “used against me to distract and divert the public away from the very serious real issue of domestic violence.”

The actress said she originally asked for spousal support because it is “standard operating procedure,” especially when “there is a great disparity between the relative incomes of the parties,” she says in the court papers.

In the request for a temporary restraining order filed on May 27, Heard requested $50,000 a month in spousal support from Depp.

Depp’s high-powered divorce attorney Laura Wasser said in a response to Heard’s request for a protective order that “Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.”

At the time, a judge granted the protective order that Depp stay away from Heard, but shelved all of Heard’s other requests, including financial support, until the June 17 hearing.

In the documents, Heard claims the actor made $30 million last year, and says the court could have ordered Depp to pay temporary spousal support “in the amount of $943,744 per month.”

“My very initial request for pendente lite spousal support is only about 5 percent of what I could have requested and the Court could have ordered.

But while Heard has withdrawn her request for spousal support in the domestic violence case, the actress can still ask for financial support in the divorce case.

In a second filing obtained by PEOPLE, Heard’s friend iO Tillet Wright submitted a declaration chronicling Wright’s own account of the alleged abuse that occurred on May 21 between Depp and Heard.

“I heard Johnny launch into a cruel and vicious rage,” Wright says. “I called 911 to save Amber’s life.”

In the declaration, Wright claimed to be willing testify on behalf of Heard if called as a witness.
