Amazon Taps Disney Vet Jeremy Helfand To Oversee Prime Video Advertising

Jeremy Helfand, who spent the past five years as a streaming executive at Disney and Hulu, has joined Amazon to lead Prime Video Advertising.

Starting later this year, scripted film and TV titles on Prime will feature ads, making the subscription platform the latest player to accept brand messages on its scripted programming. Netflix and Disney+ have both launched ad tiers over the past year. Prime subscribers will start seeing ads unless they pay $3 a month extra in order to keep their Prime programming ad-free.

Helfand confirmed his move to Amazon in a post on LinkedIn.

“I joined Hulu in 2018 to jump into the then emerging streaming TV revolution, and what an incredible ride it has been, ultimately landing at Disney. Through all the business growth and innovation, the team is what you remember most, and I’m so proud of what was accomplished,” he wrote. “It’s time for the next chapter, and I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined Amazon to lead Prime Video Advertising. I’ll be working with a talented team of customer-obsessed business builders to create something special, starting with our upcoming launch!”

Helfand’s exit from Disney comes as the media giant is gearing up to have a big presence at next week’s CES in Las Vegas. In addition to general business dealings at the conference, the company is also going to be convening its annual Tech and Data Showcase for advertisers.
