Amazon Is Reportedly Planning to Move from 2-Day to 1-Day Prime Shipping

Amazon Moving from 2-Day to 1-Day Prime Shipping

Amazon Prime fans, rejoice!

The shipping service is reportedly replacing their popular two-day shipping plan with free one-day shipping — meaning you will soon be able to get your package twice as fast.

CNET reported that Amazon finance chief Brian Olsavsky announced the move during an earnings call on Thursday.

“We’re currently working on evolving our Prime shipping program, which has historically been a two-day program, to a one-day shipping program,” Olsavsky said, according to CNET.

“We’ll be building most of this capacity through the year, in 2019,” he added. “We expect to make steady progress quickly and through the year.”

Olsavsky did not announce an official launch date for the move to one-day shipping, CNET and NBC reported.

The company already offers one-day shipping to Prime members, but it is only available in certain markets and often comes with an additional cost.

According to NBC, Olsavsky said the new Prime one-day shipping program would be free and expanded to more products and markets, just like the current two-day shipping offer.

The changes will roll out first in the North American market, but will eventually expand globally.

NBC reported that Amazon plans to spend $800 million during the next quarter to make one-day shipping a reality. That money will go to improving warehouses and other delivery infrastructures.

“We’re taking a significant step,” Olsavsky reportedly said of the new initiative.
