The buzz around Amazon Prime Video’s series Poacher has escalated since its release on February 23, 2024. The series, created by Delhi Crime’s Richie Mehta, takes viewers on a gripping journey as a team of forest officials unravels an ivory poaching ring. This show is more intriguing because it is based on true events.

“Strangest things that you see in the show are all real”: Poacher actor Roshan Mathew reveals

Alia Bhatt is serving as the executive producer of the latest Amazon Prime Video Series. The series, consisting of eight episodes, is the brainchild of Richie Mehta. The inception of this gripping story traces back to Mehta’s involvement in a 2015 documentary project with Google. While working on the project, Wildlife Trust of India submitted a video depicting an ivory raid in Delhi, sparking the idea for the Poacher series.

The true events inspiring Poacher unfolded in Operation Shikar in Malayatoor, Kerala, in 2019. It was a planned enforcement in response to an elephant poaching and ivory trade circle operational in Kerala forests.

The Indian Forest Service officers took legal action against 41 individuals concerning an elephant poaching case. Among those arrested were Sudheesh Chandra Babu and his daughter Amritha, apprehended by investigators from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Kolkata unit.

Adding credibility to the authenticity of Poacher’s storyline, Roshan Mathew, a cast member of the series, confirmed its basis in reality. He stated, “Obviously, all of the events have been dramatized and fictionalized to an extent to make them effective and to fit them into the structure of the show. But the strangest things that you see in the show are all real. This is something that Richie said. Because you can’t write fiction that way.”

Poacher is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
