Amazon to Launch Day-and-Night Sports-Talk Lineup on Prime

Amazon is launching a new lineup of sports-talk shows, with original analysis and other elements – but no highlights – that will run daily on Prime between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The new sports initiative was first reported Monday by the New York Post. A person with knowledge of the company’s plans confirmed to TheWrap that the platform will make its debut Tuesday on Prime.

Amazon Prime Video made a monster play for sports when it acquired the exclusive rights to “Thursday Night Football.” The Post reported that new daily block will feature host talent like Cari Champion, Master Tesfatsion and Rennae Stubbs, and will use its global reach to explore more international sports.

One thing the shows will not feature, at least at first: sports highlight reels.

“We want to push the talent and the producers to take this approach and have more deeper and interesting conversations,” Marie Donoghue, Amazon’s vice president of Global Sports Video, told the Post. “Nothing is set in stone so we will iterate and adapt, but that’s how we want to go out.”

Seven new shows are being produced with Sony’s Embassy Row, co-founded by “Jeopardy!” executive producer Michael Davies.

The seven shows are: “Bonjour Sports Talk” with Madelyn Burke and Ben Lyons; “The Cari Champion Show”; “Sports Talk Game Breakers” with Eitan Levine and Drexton Clemons; “From the Desk of Master T” with Master Tesfatsion; “The Power Hour” with Rennae Stubbs; “The Greatest Hour of All-Time (GHOAT)”; and “The Backup Plan” with Hana Ostapchuk and Jason Spells, which will feature highlights from the day’s shows and sports talk at large.
