Amazon Just Made Tons of Kids' Shows & Movies Free — No Prime Necessary

Running out of ways to keep your little ones entertained during the coronavirus quarantine? Take heart: Amazon is streaming kids’ shows and movies free right now. As in, nope, you don’t even need an Amazon Prime membership. So (we’re channeling Oprah for this one), you get Pete the Cat, and you get Pete the Cat… everybody gets Pete the Cat!

Because Amazon clearly understands the inherent difficulties of social distancing with children — raise your hand if you already miss playdates — they’ve decided to unlock a selection of family-friendly programming typically only available to Prime subscribers. Conveniently, the content is divided into helpful categories. Some are displayed by age, i.e. “Free for All: Shows for Ages 6 – 11.” Others are organized by network, such as “Free for All: PBS Kids Series.” What’s really exciting is this opens the door for families without Prime memberships to watch Amazon Originals. This includes super-popular options like Tumble Leaf, Danger & Eggs and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

As far as movies go, there’s an entire section of this new free portal devoted to ad-supported family favorites (think Shrek and Scooby-Doo). Oh, in case you missed it, Amazon also released a kid-friendly collection of free audiobooks over the weekend.

Here’s the full rundown of Amazon Originals now available for free streaming in the US at the launch of this coronavirus-related initiative (in addition to those mentioned above): The Stinky and Dirty Show, Bug Diaries, Creative Galaxy, Jessy and Nessy, Wishenpoof, Annedroids, Bookaboo, Dino Dana, Click, Clack, Moo: Christmas at the Farm, Costume Quest, The Dangerous Book for Boys, Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street, Just Add Magic: New Protectors, Just Add Magic: Mystery City, Littlebig Awesome, Lost in Oz, Niko and the Sword of Light and The Snowy Day.

Network picks include Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Arthur, Bali, Caillou, Cyberchase, Design Squad, Dinosaur Train, Fetch! With Ruff Ruffman, Kratts Creatures, Martha Speaks, Nature Cat, Odd Squad, Peep and the Big Wide World, Peg + Cat, Postcards from Buster, Reading Rainbow, Ready Jet Go!, Wild Kratts, WordGirl, WordWorld and Zooboomafoo.

Amazon isn’t the only streaming service doing what they can to help families out during this unprecedented time. Hulu and Sling both recently made free streaming available (Sling for news and entertainment, Hulu for live news). Disney+ released a slew of movies to its streaming service ahead of schedule, including Frozen II and Onward. And NBCU dropped still-in-theater offerings like The Hunt and Invisible Man to streaming services.
