Amazon Bows Out of TCA Winter Press Tour Along With Broadcast Executives

Amazon will not present any panels at the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour this year, joining executives from NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox in sitting out their executive sessions, TheWrap has learned.

Amazon is the latest streaming service to announce that they would sit out the semi-annual event. Netflix announced earlier this year that it would not be attending the winter tour this time around.

The loss of the executive sessions is a serious blow to TCA, as plenty of news has been made during these sessions in previous years. For example, CBS Entertainment head Glen Geller got a lot of flack during the summer session for the lack of diverse lead characters on his network. However, the executives will return for the summer press tour in 2017.

An individual with knowledge of the networks’ collective decision not to include any executives this time around told TheWrap that they are choosing to focus on their midseason programming rather than the executive sessions.

At this year’s winter session, CBS is set to present “Training Day” and “Superior Donuts;” ABC will preview “Still Star-Crossed,” “Downward Dog,” “Imaginary Mary” and “Time After Time;” Fox will present “Shots Fired,” “Star,” “24: Legacy,” “APB,” “Making History” and “The Mick;” NBC will bring “Taken,” “Powerless,” “Trial & Error,” “Midnight, Texas,” “Great News,” “Marlon” and “Blacklist: Redemption.”

The TCA winter press tour will be held Jan. 5-Jan. 18 at the Langham in Pasadena.
