Dr. Jim Raman, an orthodontist who completed on the 25th season of The Amazing Race, has died in South Carolina, PEOPLE confirms. He was 42.

A native of Irmo, S.C., Raman competed on the long-running reality show in 2014. Partnered with his wife Misti, the couple ended the race in second place.

Although the Ramans didn’t win the show, they were strong racers, finishing five of the show’s 12 legs in first place.

Officials have not released a cause or manner of death, but are continuing to investigate.

Police were called to the Raman family home at 4:30 a.m. on March 12, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Capt. Adam Myrick tells WIS-TV. Raman was found dead on the scene.

In a statement first obtained by WIS-TV, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said: “Nothing suspicious or criminal is involved with the case you are referencing and out of compassion and respect for family, my office will not comment on it.”

Jim and Misti Raman were billed as “Married Dentists” on the show. After the adventure, they returned to South Carolina and continued working at their dental practice, Irmo Smiles.

In the wake of Raman’s death, his dental practice issued a statement to its patients.

“Irmo Smiles has suffered a tragic loss this week,” the statement reads. ” It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing for Dr. Jim Raman. As our staff and the family prepare for Dr. Raman’s celebration of life, please join us in praying for peace and comfort during this difficult time.”

The statement tells patients that their appointments will be rescheduled for a later date. “Your patience is greatly appreciated as we give Dr. Misti Raman time to grieve the loss of her loving husband,” the statement reads.
