‘The Amazing Race 36’ episode 5 recap: Who was eliminated in ‘Save the Stress for Later’? [LIVE BLOG]

Tonight on “The Amazing Race,” to begin this leg of the Race in Santiago, Chile, teams self-drive in search of Marilyn Monroe’s iconic Thunderbird car to receive their next clue, on this episode titled “Save the Stress for Later” airing Wednesday, April 10 (9:30-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS. Phil Keoghan hosts.
Here are the teams still in contention: Amber & Vinny (dating), Angie & Danny (mother/son), Derek & Shelisa (married), Juan & Shane (best friends), Kishori & Karishma (cousins), Ricky & Cesar (dating), Rod & Leticia (married), Sunny & Elizabeth (best friends) and Yvonne & Melissa (dating).

9:30 p.m. — Previously, on “The Amazing Race”! In the Episode 4, teams paraglided their way to the start of the leg in Medellín, Colombia and then chose between detours “getting in sync” or “decoding a rebus puzzle.” Datiny couple Ricky & Cesar remained in first place when they reached Phil at the Pit Stop. Married couple Michelle & Sean hit the mat last and became the fourth team eliminated. Let’s continue the race!
9:35 p.m. — Teams begin this next leg of the race in Santiago, Chile. The first group to leave are Ricky & Cesar and Amber & Vinny. They’ll have to find Marilyn Monroe’s iconic Thunderbird to receive their next clue. Departing in Group 2 are Angie & Danny, Rod & Leticia and Juan & Shane. Group 3 is Derek & Shelisa, Yvonne & Melissa, Sunny & Elizabeth and Kishori & Karishma. Fifteen minutes separate each group.
9:45 p.m. — Ricky & Cesar reach the clue first. They’re instructed to drive to Skatepark Parque Aaraucano to find their next clue. The rest of the teams arrive shortly after. Angie & Danny begin working with Rod & Leticia to figure out the navigation. Angie’s a little concerned about this because Danny’s strength is navigation and Angie feels like she needs that to give herself a cushion in the physical comps. If they work alongside a strong team like Rod & Leticia they’ll just get pummeled at the next challenge. Still, there’s nothing to worry about yet. There are still six teams behind them. Yvonne & Melissa appear to be in last place — it took them forever just to find their own car.
10:00 p.m. — Kishori & Karishma are having trouble driving a stick-shift car. This allows other teams to separate themselves from the cousins, but they’re hoping to make up ground at the challenges. Meanwhile, up at the front of the pack it seems like Ricky & Cesar and Amber & Vinny are just trying not to kill each other in their cars. Both teams are buckling under the stress of navigating Santiago with a physical map. Thanks to Danny’s navigation skills, he and his mom reach the clue box first, followed by Rod & Leticia and Juan & Shane (who followed them). So three teams have now passed Ricky & Cesar and Amber & Vinny. Angie & Danny open the clue for a Roadblock called “Who’s Feeling Board?” It requires one team member to pay close attention to the boards that one skilled athlete is using. Then they’ll have to match the design by assembling an identical skateboard. Once they have the perfect match they’ll get their next clue. Ricky & Cesar have now arrived in fifth place.
10:15 p.m. — While assembling their boards the guys are having issues with some detail. Juan didn’t pay attention to the wheel colors and doesn’t understand why he keeps getting rejected by the judge. Rod lost one of the nuts for the bolts in the grass and is wandering all over saying, “I lost my nut. Can someone help me find my nut?” Eventually people start finding the humor of this. Amber & Vinny have arrived and Vinny looks excited because he’s a former skateboarder and knows how to build a board. Danny gives him friendly advice and tells him to make sure he pays attention to the colors of the wheels. Just as Rod finally locates his missing nut, Danny becomes the first racer to complete his board. He and Angie get the next clue and take off in first place. It’s a Detour. In “Perform for Pesos,” one team member will learn and perform a short routine while the other plays maracas and collects money from the crows. Once they’ve earned 2,500 pesos they get a clue. In “Climb for Clues,” teams will pick up two race ribbons at the top of a climbing wall. Angie & Danny choose to perform because Angie doesn’t have the upper body strength to climb a wall. In second place now are Juan & Shane, who just completed the Roadblock. If you’re wondering, Sunny & Elizabeth still haven’t found Marilyn Monroe’s Thunderbird. They’re in last place after some pretty brutal wrong turns.
10:30 p.m. — Ricky & Cesar have reached the Detour first and take over first place again. Meanwhile, Rod & Leticia have gone way off course and look completely lost. They are beginning to look defeated, but they need to realize there were still plenty of teams behind them when they left. Never give up on this race! Ricky & Cesar complete the “Perform for Pesos” Detour and receive their next clue in first place. It instructs them to drive to their next Pit Stop at Estacion Mapocho. The last team to check in will be eliminated. Juan & Shane are next to leave for the Pit Stop, but since they did the “Climb for Clues” Detour, it’s tough to know how far behind they are. Amber & Vinny are in third place.
10:45 p.m. — Rod & Leticia are back on track and find their way to the Detour. They have no clue that Sunny & Elizabeth still haven’t reached the Roadblock and basically need a miracle at this point. And that’s not the only team behind them! More frustration follows for this couple when Leticia admits she can’t beg people for money. An aggravated Rod hands her his drum set and tells her not to give up on everything. He will now plead for the money while Leticia entertains passers-by with her drum set. This method works much better and the married couple races towards the Pit Stop in fifth place. Meanwhile, Ricky & Cesar have reached the Pit Stop and finish in first place for the third week in a row. They’ve won a five-night trip for two to Singapore. See the full results of this leg below. Way in back, Sunny & Elizabeth finally arrive at the Roadblock and are encouraged to see four other teams still building skateboards. Can they escape elimination again?
11:00 p.m. — Yvonne & Melissa finish the Roadblock and are relieved to head off to the Detour with three teams behind them. They’re excited to see a wall-climbing challenge and make quick work of the Detour. Derek & Shelisa are next to escape the Roadblock, leaving Sunny & Elizabeth vs. Kishori & Karishma for last place. It’s Elizabeth who dominates this Roadblock though, leaving the cousins in the dust. Karishma eventually finishes her skateboard and the race to complete the Detour and find Phil at the Pit Stop is on! In the end, it’s cousins Kishori & Karishma who are the last team to arrive. Phil informs them they’ve been eliminated from the race.
