9:30 p.m. — Previously, on “The Amazing Race”! In episode 2, teams dove deeper into the countryside of Thailand for the second leg of the race, encountering catfish-infested waters and pomelo-filled rivers. Following the Roadblocks and Detours, Jocelyn & Victor finished first for the second week in a row while the mother/daughter duo of Elizabeth & Iliana was eliminated in 12th place. Let’s begin Leg 3!

9:35 p.m. — Leg 3 begins in Bangkok, Thailand with Jocelyn & Victor heading out first. They’ll head to the airport and fly 500 miles to Vietnam, then take a bus to the city of Can Tho to pick up their next clue. They will book flights through a travel agency, competing with other teams for the best flights. Jocelyn & Victor arrive at the travel agency but it doesn’t open for another 30 minutes. That costs them quite a bit of time and as they’re booking their flight Rob & Corey arrive stating, “We want to do the same thing they’re doing.”

9:45 p.m. — Jocelyn & Victor arrive at the airport and have 40 minutes before they can even check in. Other teams begin booking the same flight. Rob & Corey, Greg & John and Morgan & Lena will head out at the same time. When Todd & Ashlie arrive at the travel agent they find out that flight is booked and the next one is six hours later. That’s quite a time gap. As other teams book the late flight, Joe & Ian’s travel agent worked some magic and booked them on the early flight, just five minutes behind the leaders. Joel & Garrett get the same savvy travel agent while Liam & Yeremi and Andrea & Malaina book the late flight. Robbin & Chelsea are last to arrive, but should catch up with plenty of teams at the airport.

10:00 p.m. — As teams arrive at the airport Todd & Ashlie and Steve & Anna Leigh catch wind that teams behind them got earlier flights out of Bangkok. They’re furious. Meanwhile, the first flight has been delayed an hour, which means Joe & Ian and Joel & Garrett will be the first to depart at 1:50 p.m. What a turn of events! Later, the first two teams reach Vietnam and we get a look at the cozy busses they’ll take to Can Tho. Each passenger takes off their shoes and gets to lie down for a nap. Not a bad way to spend a few hours during this stressful race! An hour later the second flight arrives in Vietnam while flight three is still sitting in Thailand. Up at the front of the pack, Joe & Ian get to a dock and discover their major time advantage is about to shrink. They have to hang out all night and wait for their allotted time slot tomorrow, which they share with two other teams — only 15 minutes ahead of the next few teams. Joel & Garrett grab the second top time slot and Rob & Corey grab the third when they arrive an hour later.

10:15 p.m. — The last group of racers arrives and luck strikes another team. Anna Leigh digs a little deeper in that 5:45 a.m. time slot and finds a pass — which launches her and her dad into the first group to depart tomorrow morning. What a find! Morning comes and that first group takes off at 5:45 a.m. They’ll ride by boat to Cai Rang Floating Market, seeking out vendors looking to stock three different types of fruit. Each vendor will give them one third of a photograph. Once they have all three pieces of the photo, they put them together to see their next clue. With just 30 minutes between first and last place, all teams are out in the floating market. It’s anyone’s race!

10:30 p.m. — Morgan & Lena have decided to use their Express Pass. It won’t give them the cushion they had hoped for, but it will prevent them from being in the back of the pack. They jump into first place with Joel & Garrett hot on their heels. Many of the other teams are really congested in that market, struggling to get the space to offload their fruit. Joel & Garrett reach the next clue, so they’re in first place. In this Detour, teams will choose between paper or plastic. In “Paper,” teams will have to learn to make rice paper and perfectly lay out 12 sheets. In “Plastic,” teams will cut, apply, heat and smooth out vinyl on one body part of a motorbike. Joel & Garrett choose paper and lead 10 teams. Morgan & Lena are in second place and choose “Plastic,” so we’ll see which Detour looks faster. To me the paper challenge looks much more manageable, but Morgan & Lena are actually familiar with vinyl and seem very comfortable where they’re at.

10:45 p.m. — All teams are now at the Detour with Andrea & Malaina arriving last. A few teams have gotten checks at the “Paper” Detour, but Steve & Anna Leigh are the first to actually get a stamp of approval for their rice paper. They receive their next clue which sends them to the next Pit Stop at Truc Lam Phu’o’ng Nam Zen Monastery. Joel & Garrett are next and will race them to the finish line of this leg. Steve & Anna Leigh arrive first, however they’re still racing! Phil simply hands them a clue, sending them by taxi to a new location. Go to the end of this blog to see the order teams reached Phil in this episode.

11:00 p.m. — Two teams that really made up time in the Detour were Robbin & Chelsea and Andrea & Malaina. They arrived at the back of the pack, but moved into the middle with their rice paper skills. Morgan & Lena were shocked when they reached the Pit Stop in sixth place. They were hoping their Express Pass would give them a huge advantage, but they didn’t even maintain their top four standing in the race. This leg has definitely flipped the race on its head. Jocelyn & Victor go from first to 10th. Liam & Yeremi are dead last after thinking they had a solid leg, but they’re still in the race! This leg continues next week.

Leg 3 standings:
1. Steve & Anna Leigh
2. Joel & Garrett
3. Rob & Corey
4. Todd & Ashlie
5. Robbin & Chelsea
6. Morgan & Lena
7. Joe & Ian
8. Greg & John
9. Andrea & Malaina
10. Jocelyn & Victor
11. Liam & Yeremi
