A well-known voice actress is visiting Amarillo as a guest artist during Yellow City Comic Convention (YC3), to be held April 19-21 at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex, and she will be raising funds for the Make A Wish Foundation and No Kid Hungry.

Kat Cressida is best known for her roles as the voice of Dee Dee on the animated Cartoon Network television series "Dexter's Laboratory"; Constance Hatchaway in Disney's "The Black Widow Bride" of "The Haunted Mansion" at the Disneyland Resort and the Walt Disney World Resort; and the voice of Bloody Mary in the video game "The Wolf Among Us." Cressida has also voiced characters in "Phineas and Ferb," "Archer," Disney’s "Tarzan" as well as video game characters for games including "Starfield," "God of War: Ragnarok," "Skylanders," "Fallout ’76," "Fallout 4," "Disney Infinity" as Jesse, Elektra in "Marvel Heroes," and many more.

"I think, overall, it is just great to be a part of an event that is really driven towards the pop culture lovers, the movie lovers, the animation lovers, the gaming lovers and the Disney lovers in the community and to get them some great interactions and memories. And if I can further that good a little more, I am excited to do it," Cressida said.

As stated by the voice actress, a portion of the proceeds from the fan signings will benefit the chosen nonprofit organizations as a way for her to give back to some of the most vulnerable individuals in each community. Cressida said that her desire to help others stems from her battle with cancer after being diagnosed in 2012 with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, a rare and dangerous tumor that subjected her to two years of life-threatening surgeries, specialized treatment and a prolonged pre-pandemic quarantine.

"Having gone through the health journey that I have survived and the various rounds of being in and out of hospitals and treatment centers, and having to learn a great deal of the challenges that come up with the healthcare industry in general, I have seen children and their families who have really gone through the worst of it. Oftentimes, it was more heartbreaking to me to see what they were facing, and I feel this is an opportunity to help them," Cressida said.

No Kid Hungry, a nationwide nonprofit founded in 1984 and established in Texas in 2010, was established to serve its mission to reduce and eradicate the number of children who do not have access to three square meals a day. According to the organization, one in five children across the nation is at the risk of hunger. Since establishment, the nonprofit has provided grants, resources and assistance to districts across the nation to strengthen their child nutrition programs.

Cressida said that she does not have a goal for how much she hopes to raise through these events, but she hopes to "raise as much as possible." In addition to No Kid Hungry, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a 501c nonprofit founded in 1980 that helps fulfill the wishes of children with a critical illness between the ages of 3 and 18 years old.

Cressida spoke about how much her fans and those who recognize her mean to her - that she even prefers not to leave her seat for any reason during signing events.

"I have been asked if I would like to be on more panels, and my preference is to always stay in my seat, because that one moment that I am gone, that could be the time that a mom had to race in and race out between soccer practice or work or whatever, and I never want to miss when someone comes by the table," Cressida said.

When asked what character she is most shocked to be recognized for, she said she is often taken aback when recognized for voicing Princess Leia in a few of the "Star Wars" video games.

"For years, even though I was one of several voice talents over the years that have voiced Princess Leia, I never thought to even say I had ever voiced her. I mean, Carrie Fisher was Princess Leia. She embodied her, and some time last year, I noticed people beginning to bring her (Princess Leia) up to me, her Funko Pops or comic books, and it was surprising at first because it wasn't something I ever really put out there," Cressida said.

During YC3 in Amarillo, guests will have the opportunity to meet Cressida, as well as purchase and have her sign some of her exclusive prints, Disney merch and Funko Pop figurines, including Dee Dee, Jessie the Cowgirl, Marvel's Electra, and Constance Hatchaway.
