Amanda Seyfried Celebrates Dog Finn's 14th Birthday: 'Finn Stories All Day'

The Oscar-nominated actress made a cake from scratch for her beloved pooch on his special day

Amanda Seyfried is celebrating her dog Finn’s 14th birthday in a big way!

In a special birthday tribute post on her Instagram Friday, the Oscar-nominated actress, 37, honored her Australian shepherd — whom she rescued as a puppy — by sharing a collection of sweet and funny photos and videos of him.

Seyfried started off her tribute with a video of Finn running toward the camera with his big tail wagging away. “He’s feeling himself today and every day,” she wrote in a caption over the video.

In another video, she rubbed Finn’s ear and said to him, “Who’s the birthday boy? Who’s the birthday boy? Who’s 14 years old? You are. That’s right. That’s right.”

The animal lover also included photos of Finn, who she said changed her life, dressed in a colorful striped shirt and appearing to hold a cup of coffee with a bowl of cereal in front of him. In other snap, the pup’s dressed in a white collar and teal bow tie. Another photo showed him with headphones on in front of an old-school boombox.

The Mean Girls star even baked from scratch a dog-friendly birthday cake to mark the special occasion. The recipe — which she posted on her Instagram Story — included shredded carrots, honey, an egg, peanut butter and whole wheat flour.

For the “icing,” she used a thin layer of peanut butter and coconut chips. She topped the special cake with six long candles.

In a photo with his cake, Finn, wearing a birthday cap atop his head, adorably looked a little bewildered. “I feel the same about my own birthday, Finny. But we’re gonna celebrate you anyway! A full fourteen. The greatest years I never saw coming,” the dog mom quipped in the caption.

Seyfried has shared in the past how much Finn has meant to her.

“I’m obsessed with my dog,” she told PEOPLE in 2010. “He’s become my son and my light source and kind of a savior to a lot of people.”

In her late teens and early twenties, Seyfried battled anxiety until she met “the one” — Finn — on the set of her HBO show Big Love, which ran from 2006 to 2011.

“As soon as he was mine, like 24 hours after I got him, I realized something about me needed him,” Seyfried later shared with PEOPLE in 2019. “He completely changed my life and helped me find my solitude and my independence. When you have a lifestyle like I did when I was in my early twenties, there were no constants.”

Seyfried explained that Finn helped ground her in a career where there are so many unknowns. “It was just hard to know where I was going to be the next month because of my career,” she continued. “That’s why I got him.”

She also talked about how her Finn inspired her to stand up for homeless pets. 

“People think that behaviorally, it won’t be easy to train them, or that they’re emotionally unstable,” she told PEOPLE. “But that can be true for any animal. People also say, ‘But I want a puppy!’ You can still rescue puppies. And there’s nothing wrong with an adult dog, either — often you don’t even have to train them.”
