Amal Clooney opens up about George publicly for the first time at AFI award ceremony

George Clooney received the 2018 AFI Lifetime Achievement Award on June 7th, but it aired on June 21st. Since it was such a special event, Amal Clooney took a rare moment will to open up about her own views on George. Amal started her speech by saying she was nervous. She admitted, "It's somehow easier for me to address a court on behalf of a detainee than to speak publicly, as I'm doing for the first time tonight, about my husband." Amal talked about how much she admired George's work with war-ravaged and impoverished countries. "Even before I knew him, I admired George's commitment to taking up causes like exposing corruption in Sudan, before they were visible." said Amal, adding, "And to taking moral stances, like opposing the war in Iraq, when it was far from popular to do so." And while Amal appreciated all George has done for the world, she was most thankful for what he has done for her. She directly addressed George saying, "My love, what I have found with you is the great love that I always hoped existed. And seeing you with our children, Ella and Alexander, is the greatest joy in my life." Later, when George was giving his acceptance speech, he compared the lifetime achievement award to the greatest award he's ever been given, Amal's love. Looking at her, he said, "You make every single day, every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday feel as special as tonight. And tonight is very special, and I will treasure it always."
