"We were really ready to go home and get in the hot tub and smoke a cigar," the country duo joke of filming their cover of "All I Have to Offer You Is Me"

The smoldering eye contact between the husband-and-wife country duo Alyssa & Wayne Brewer could very well start an inferno.

"We've always just been together, and we've always been connected, so eye contact has always been important,” explains Alyssa Brewer, 26, in a recent interview with PEOPLE.

But on the dreamlike video captured in a wooded field just outside their Kentucky home, the country duo took that eye contact to another level on the shoot for “All I Have to Offer You Is Me” off their debut album A&W Sing George & Tammy.

“The eye contact looked natural, but it was very hard to not cry our eyes out because of the lyrics to that song,” adds Alyssa.

The video’s co-directors — Wayne’s father Gary Brewer and Wayne’s little brother Mason Brewer — couldn’t help but notice the couple’s obvious chemistry while singing the song to one another.

“Even the camera people kept saying in between scenes, ‘All right guys, snap out of it,” Wayne Brewer, 28, laughs about the circumstances of the music video premiering exclusively on PEOPLE. “Basically, we were locked into each other.”

It’s a place that the couple often finds themselves in.

“You have to lose yourself in one another, which we do frankly in our daily,” reflects Wayne. “But yeah, you have to do that in a video or a performance to make it translate to people that's watching it from somewhere else.”

Wayne lets out a hearty laugh, joking, “We were really ready to go home and get in the hot tub and smoke a cigar.”

All jokes aside, Wayne says that “All I Have to Offer You Is Me” is a song that has long been a special one for him and wife Alyssa.

“I remember George [Jones] and Tammy [Wynette] doing it on an album that they called One, and we were like, holy crap,” remembers Wayne, a sixth-generation musician best-known for his work with Gary Brewer & The Kentucky Ramblers. “I realized Charley [Pride] sort of made the song famous, but we were like, man, when George and Tammy sing it, it's been sung. So, it just stayed with us ever since.”

In fact, the duo ended up putting “All I Have to Offer You Is Me” on a list of songs that they believed they would sing together someday.

“A song hits different when you've lived it,” explains Wayne of the song that now lives on their album A&W Sing George & Tammy alongside the album’s first single, “Golden Ring.” “We started out very meagerly and humble.”

Indeed, Wayne was 20 years old, and Alyssa was 18 years old when they took their marriage vows, causing them to rely on teamwork and dedication to their own love story to make things work

“You don't have very much when you're that age,” Wayne reflects. “Just like the song said, that's all we had, really, was each other to give to each other.”

Certainly, life is different now, with the couple having been married now for eight years and having welcomed daughter Alayna Finlee, who just turned 1 earlier this month, to the mix.

‘She's just made it even better,” Alyssa raves. “We can see one another in her and she's just the most precious little thing. Any free time that we've had, we get to spend it with her now. And she's just a wonderful little blessing and addition. She brings so much joy to our relationship and the entire family.”
