Alyssa Milano Reveals She Had Two Abortions That Were Months Apart in 1993

Alyssa Milano is opening up about two abortions she had within months of each other in her early 20's after becoming pregnant.

The 46-year-old actress, who's been an advocate for women's right to choose, revealed the news on her Podcast, "Sorry Not Sorry," on Tuesday.

Explaining she was in love with her boyfriend and on birth control, but still got pregnant two times in 1993.

“I knew at that time, I was not equipped to be a mother, and so I chose to have an abortion,” Milano said of the difficult decision. “I chose. It was my choice. And it was absolutely the right choice for me.”

Continuing to speak from her own experience, she added, "It was not something I wanted, but it was something that I needed, like most health care is.”

Milano said she was "in love for the first time, in the breathless way you can only be in love when you are young,” but "was not ready to be a parent."

At the time, the actress was a year away from landing the role on "Who's The Boss," the show that made her a household name.

“I had a career and a future and potential,” she explained.

Still, it wasn't an easy decision for Milano, citing her Catholic childhood as adding more difficulty to the situation.

“It was devastating,” Milano recalled. “I was raised Catholic and was suddenly put in conflict with my faith. A faith I was coming to realize empowered only men to make every single decision about what was allowed and what was not allowed.”

After her first procedure, she revealed she continued to have sex with her then-boyfriend because “sexually connecting with my partner gave me pleasure.”

Months after the first abortion, she found out she'd fallen pregnant again.

“I had done what I knew to do to prevent pregnancy and was still pregnant, so once again I made the right decision to end that pregnancy,” she stated.

Milano said while it was hard, she wouldn't change a thing because it was the path that lead her to her current life.

She's been married to CAA agent Dave Bugliari since 2009 and they have two children together -- son, Milo, 7, and daughter, Elizabella, 4.

“I would not have my children — my beautiful, perfect, loving, kind and inquisitive children who have a mother who was so very, very ready for them,” Milano said. “I would not have my career. I would not have the ability or platform I use to fight against oppression with all my heart,” she continued.

“I would never have met my amazing husband, David, whose steadfast and immeasurable love for me sustains me through these terrifying times."

She continued to explain that “I would never had been free to be myself — and that’s what this fight is all about: freedom. Freedom from oppression. Freedom for women to have the audacity to be equally sexual beings as men. Freedom for women to live the life they were meant to have, not just the life that is thrust upon them by a pregnancy that cannot exist in their life.”
