How Alyson Hannigan Paid Tribute to Her “How I Met Your Mother” Days on “Dancing with the Stars”

The 'HIMYM' star also paid tribute to her 20-year marriage to Alexis Denisof during her Most Memorable Year Night performance

Ahead of Alyson Hannigan’s performance on Dancing with the Stars on Tuesday, the How I Met Your Mother alum gave a touching nod to her time on the hit sitcom.

Sharing photos of Most Memorable Year Night rehearsal sessions with pro partner Sasha Farber on Instagram, the 49-year-old actress paid tribute to her nine-season run on HIMYM by dancing with a yellow umbrella similar to the one seen frequently by leading man Ted Mosby in his quest for love.

“If you know you know💛☂️💛,” Hannigan captioned the post.

Josh Radnor, who played Ted, commented alongside HIMYM fans, writing to Hannigan: “I know!”

But the dance wasn't just nostalgic for one of her signature roles, Hannigan also used the dance to honor her 20th anniversary with husband Alexis Denisof.

“Tonight we celebrate my most memorable year,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of herself holding a bouquet of red roses. “2003: the year I married my husband and our happily ever after began. 💍 #MostMemorableYear #DWTS.”

Following her performance on Tuesday, Hannigan told PEOPLE of the gratitude she felt for her husband for taking care of their kids and the household chores as she rehearses each week.

“He's been so supportive — and I'm not surprised, but I'm super appreciative,” she explained. “He is that guy. He's always been a hands-on dad and he's made so many sacrifices for us. But just the support and in every single way of, I'm home, but I'm lying on the couch, kind of like, ugh. And he's everything. He cooks, [he] gets me ice. He's everything. It's amazing.”

Hannigan also gushed about what it meant to finally hit that big marriage milestone.

"It really feels like an accomplishment. I'm so proud of us,” she shared. “The fact that we're so happy now and that I love him even more than I did then is so awesome.” 

“We're so, so lucky,” she added. "We found each other."

Hannigan and Denisof met on the set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1999 and got engaged in 2001. Following their 2003 wedding at the Two Bunch Palms resort near Palm Springs, California, they welcomed two daughters Satyana Marie and Keeva Jane.
