Trout Fishing: The position of first lady is in fact very important. First ladies are given an office and staff. They are expected to plan state dinners, oversee the White House tours, and perform a number of ceremonial duties. First ladies usually use their position to shine a spotlight on important issues or charitable organizations. Laura Bush promoted literacy and reading programs. Michelle Obama raised national awareness about childhood obesity and promoted initiatives for healthy children. Melania Trump did not even move into the White House until five months after Trump took office. White House tours were canceled for a longer period than ever before during a presidential transition and only reopened because of pressure by Congress. She has planned just one state dinner. Melania and Donald rarely attend any of the important Washington functions, including the Kennedy Center honors. Her initial claim that she would address online bullying is laughable considering her husband's abusive tweets. The goofy, "Be Best" phrase represents nothing and is not attached to any initiatives. Her performance as FLOTUS has been to model clothes and squint at the camera. She gives few speeches and has plagiarized Michelle Obama at least twice. She's not the first mother to become FLOTUS. In three previous administrations, the first family moved to Washington and transferred their children to local schools. She is probably the most useless and ridiculous first lady in American history.
