They will be joined by new cast additions Simone Missick, who played Detective Misty Knight in the Netflix Marvel universe; Dina Shihabi (Marvel’s Daredevil, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan); German actor Torben Liebrecht (Operation Finale) and veteran James Saito (The Terror) in Season 2, headlined by Anthony Mackie as the lead Takeshi Kovacs, a role originated by Joel Kinnaman in Season 1. (Watch the Season 2 cast reveal above.)

Mackie will be the new embodiment of Kovacs, as the series continues to delve into the themes of identity, mortality, and the human soul across longer periods of times and different worlds throughout the universe.

There had been a lot of speculation whether any Season 1 cast members would return for Season 2. In an interview at the release of the first season a year ago, series creator/executive producer Laeta Kalogridis had indicated that Poe (Conner) and Kovacs’ deadly sister Reileen (Dichen Lachman) might be seen again, despite their characters being killed off. In the world of Altered Carbon, death is not an issue as also illustrated by the return of Quellcrist Falconer who also was killed (though her cortical stack had been backed-up before her demise).

A former Protectorate CTAC soldier who became a revolutionary Envoy, and then a mercenary for hire, Kovacs (Mackie) swears allegiance to no man or woman except one: Quellcrist Falconer (Goldsberry). His undying quest to reconnect with her spans multiple centuries, planets and sleeves.

A fierce revolutionary leader with a deep bond to Takeshi Kovacs, Quell (Goldsberry) is driven by her desire to reset the balance between life and death.

A centuries-old, highly-evolved A.I. and loyal companion to Takeshi Kovacs, Poe (Conner) strives to understand what it means to be human. (Watch video announcing Quell and Poe’s return below.)

Mossick will play Trepp; Shihabi is Dig 301; Liebrecht is Colonel Ivan Carrera; Saito is Tanaseda Hideki.

An expert bounty hunter, Trepp (Missick) is known for her ability to track down anyone in the Settled Worlds, for the right price.

An out-of-work A.I. programmed to assist human archeologists, Dig (Shihabi) finds a new purpose when she meets Poe.

The dogged leader of a Protectorate Special Forces unit known as the “Wedge,” Colonel Carrera (Liebrecht) is on the hunt for Takeshi Kovacs.

A centuries-old Yakuza boss, Tanaseda (Saito) controls organized crime on the planet of Harlan’s World and shares a history with Takeshi Kovacs.

Based on the classic science fiction novels by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon is from Skydance Television. Alison Schapker, who joined as co-showrunner in Season 2, co-showrunner Laeta Kalogridis and James Middleton serve as executive producers for the series, alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross for Skydance.
