'Altered Carbon': Netflix drops trailer for sci-fi series, reveals release date

You may not be familiar with Netflix’s upcoming series “Altered Carbon” right now, but by the time you finish the first trailer for the sci-fi drama you are sure to be counting the days till its release this February.

The NSFW video gives just a tiny taste of the show, from writer-producer Laeta Kalogridis (“Alita: Battle Angel,” “Shutter Island”), which is based on Richard K. Morgan’s 2002 cyberpunk novel.

“Altered Carbon” is set 500 years in the future, in a time when human consciousness can be uploaded onto digital implants, or “stacks,” allowing the disgustingly wealthy to regularly update their bodies, or “sleeves.” The process allows you to pretty much live forever.

The drama follows the story of Takeshi Kovacs (initially played by Will Yun Lee, then Joel Kinnaman — because, you know, sleeves), an elite soldier who was a killer for hire who became a revolutionary. His consciousness was stored away and he is awoken centuries later to solve a murder.

His return sets off a chain of events that will rock the world and also make for some epic battle scenes. The pilot was shot by Emmy-winning director Miguel Sapochnik (who handled the “Battle of the Bastards” episode of “Game of Thrones”).

The series is set to drop on Netflix on February 2, 2018.
