After almost 60 years, Ruth's Family Restaurant in Martinez will close by the New Year

Ruth's Family Restaurant has been feeding breakfast and lunch to generations. But not for much longer.

The beloved Martinez diner will be closed by Dec. 30, according to a post on Ruth's Facebook page on Saturday. It read as follows: "Thank you for 13 wonderful years! Y’all come on in and get some grits while you still can and let us say goodbye."

Ruth's was first opened in 1965 by Ruth Goodbread, who died in 2013. Over the years, it has gone through different owners, but the original character and fans have remained consistent over the years.

The diner is located in at 3843 Washington Rd. It's open 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
