Alliance High students score titles at career conference

Two groups of Alliance High School students took first place in a competition in the at the recent 36th annual Career Development Conference at the John S. Knight Center.

The team of Camden Blake, Jailyn Billings, Amileyon Copper and Ella Wayne placed first in the Team Knowledge Bowl after winning three rounds of head-to-head competition on topics such as employability skills, current events, citizenship and parliamentary procedure.

Senior Caprice Thomas also placed first in her competition, Career Preparation. This event involves the competitor identifying, researching and presenting on a career of interest. Thomas plans to attend Kent State University to study zoology with the hopes of working in wildlife rehabilitation.

The students were part of AHS’s Jobs For Ohio’s Graduates program. The conference allows each competitor to showcase their knowledge and skills in one of eight events centered on the soft skills required to obtain and keep a quality job.

Also competing in the contest were Leah Faer and Zaynah Pinter, who placed second in their respective competitions.

Camden Blake, Jailyn Billings, Amileyon Copper, Ella Wayne and Caprice Thomas have qualified to compete at The National Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida, this month against students from all across the United States.
