A suspect was arrested on Thursday in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in Culver City, Calif., police announced in a statement on Friday.

The suspect, Marcos Maldonado, 35, allegedly entered a Culver City residence in the Blair Hills community in the early morning hours of Dec. 2 and sexually assaulted an unidentified juvenile female, according to a Culver City Police Department statement.

According to KTLA, citing the alleged victim's mother, Maldonado allegedly threatened the girl with further harm if she didn't remain quiet during the incident.

"He told her that there was a shooter at her window," the girl's mother said, according to the local news outlet.

Police responded to the call at 7:46 a.m. on Dec. 2 and allegedly recovered video evidence of the man's departure from the area.

According to the CCPD's report, DNA evidence allegedly linked Maldonado to the crime on Thursday and he was arrested the same day, on the I-5 freeway, after he left a hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Maldonado was on a bus headed for Bakersfield.

Maldonado is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. He's currently being held on $1.25 million bond and his arraignment is scheduled for Monday, according to NBC News.

It's not immediately clear if he has retained an attorney.
