'One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swenson Mystery' — starring the former 'Wedding Veil' and 'Days of Our Lives' costars — premieres April 5 on Hallmark Mystery

Alison Sweeney and Victor Webster's onscreen chemistry is no mystery — but now, they're making Hallmark mystery movie magic.

The actors, who costarred on Days of Our Lives from 1999-2000 and in Hallmark's The Wedding Veil movies, are together again in One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery, which PEOPLE can exclusively reveal will premiere on Friday, April 5 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries (which will be renamed Hallmark Mystery on March 6).

In an exclusive clip, Hannah (Sweeney) and Chad (Webster) run into each other at a bar — and their flirty chemistry is apparent, even as they talk about murder suspects. Underneath Chad's stern, "That's hold-back information" dig is an undeniable sizzle.

"It's not necessarily, you know, a connection at first," Webster, 51, said of the characters at the winter 2024 TCA Press Tour earlier this month. "But she weasels her way in [to helping solve the mystery] and we start having a connection. And she tries to butter me up with all kinds of tasty treats. And so by the end of the movie, you're seeing something interesting blossoming."

One Bad Apple, based on the novel Apple Turnover Murder by Joanne Fluke, marks the ninth Hannah Swensen movie and the first written by Sweeney, 47, who is also an executive producer.

"I was nervous about writing it, and I had so much fun actually," Sweeney said. "I loved it. I hear the voices in my head — and I mean that in a normal, good way."

She added: "There were just these moments for each character that were so special to me when I was writing it, when I was watching it happen [while filming], I felt like a proud mom standing in the corner, like, 'Oh, there it is! It’s happening!'"

"It's a totally different relationship for our characters," Sweeney said. "And so it was really fun to write something different for you than what we had done with those characters on The Wedding Veil."

Added Webster, "One of the things I love — and I say this to everybody — and I can't stop speaking so highly of Ali, like when we work together she is there in the moment. I go off-script sometimes and just start saying stuff that’s not in there and she's right there, we’re bouncing things back and forth each other, we’re in a real-life situation with the cameras rolling."

"I just love going to work in that kind of situation. It's so free, and creative, and collaborative," he concluded.

Hallmark's official synopsis for One Bad Apple reads, "Hannah Swensen has been asked to teach a baking class at the college in town, but her equipment is tampered with causing an explosion that the fire department rules an accident. Soon, a colleague ends up dead and Hannah begins to put together the puzzle of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the murder. Hannah leans on her friends and family to collect the breadcrumbs of foul play and put them together, and meets a different side of law and order when Lake Eden’s prosecuting attorney Chad Norton (Webster) enters her life."

Sweeney co-starred alongside Cameron Mathison in the previous Hannah Swensen movies.
