Alison Brie’s Unfortunate ‘Mad Men’ Bathroom Accident

Alison Brie was on Late Night Thursday and told Seth Meyers about how her Mad Men costume, with all its layers and a girdle, caused her to pee herself. “It’s like you’re really working blind,” she said. “You know, you’re lifting up under all the skirts, and you can sort of — the girdles are made so you can, like, pull it to the side and use the bathroom. They thought of everything. Except that I had a pair of underwear underneath.”

She had to use the facilities during an early season shoot, and went into a restroom. “I’m doing like a crazy hover over this public bathroom stall on the way to the set, and I just start peeing,” she said laughing. “And I, like, can’t hear the pee hitting the toilet. I missed my underwear. They didn’t quite make it out of the way. And I just did a full pee. A full — it was not a slight trickle; there was no stopping it in the middle. I just got very warm. Just soaked.”

Unfortunately, she had no chance to recover. “There was no time, I tried to pat it down with toilet paper and then someone outside is like, ‘We need to go.’ So I just went to set and shot a full scene,” she admitted. Fortunately, Mad Men’s costume designer, Janie Bryant, is not only amazing at her job; she’s amazing at being a human being and didn’t shame Alison. “She was like, ‘Do you hate your costume? You look so uncomfortable.’ And I was just like, ‘There’s pee. I peed. It’s everywhere — it’s everywhere.’ And she said, ‘It happens more often than you think.’”
