AliExpress Unveils Singles Day Campaign: Here’s What to Buy from the World’s Biggest Shopping Day of the Year

Singles Day is here, and online marketplace AliExpress is marking the occasion with a new celebrity partnership — and some of their best deals of the year.

One of the biggest shopping holidays in Asia, Singles Day (Nov. 11) has now extended to countries around the world, as a chance to snag steep discounts on household goods, best-selling electronics, toys and more. Originally designed as a counter-holiday to Valentine’s Day, Singles Day is appropriately celebrated on 11/11, as the four digits seemingly appear as four individual people standing alone.
Similar to Prime Day, which is Amazon’s biggest shopping day of the year, Singles Day has become a must-shop event on AliExpress.com. Officially dubbed the “Alibaba Group’s 11.11 Global Shopping Festival,” the one-day sale broke records as the biggest online shopping event of the year in 2012, overtaking Amazon’s Cyber Monday sale in terms of gross merchandise value generated within 24 hours. A few years later, AliExpress set nine Guinness World Records, selling the most mobile phones, watches and TVs (among other categories) out of any retailer in a single day.
This year’s Singles Day deals promise to be just as good, with AliExpress noting that more than five million products will be marked down by up to 50 percent off online. The sales include thousands of name brands and merchants worldwide. As part of its Singles Day campaign, AliExpress tapped rapper and singer Swae Lee to help curate some his favorite deals to shop. Swae will also be making an appearance at an in-person Singles’ Day Pop-Up Party in New York, taking place Thursday to Sunday at 69 Mercer St. in Soho.
The Grammy-nominated artist (who is indeed single, according to reports) says he was excited to team up with AliExpress to promote a little self-care and let fans know that it’s okay to be single — and to splurge on a good deal for themselves. “I’m excited to team up with AliExpress on Singles’ Day because to me it’s a day to celebrate self-care, self-expression, and individuality,” Swae Lee says, in a press release. “My music and style have always been about being true to myself and standing out from the crowd. I believe everyone should be able to express themselves in their own unique way, and AliExpress offers a wide variety of unique products that help people do just that.”

In a press release, AliExpress says Singles Day “has blossomed into a time of year in which people splurge on themselves, putting an emphasis on self-care, wellness and self-love. It represents a chance to live your best life by capitalizing on maximum savings and endless choices during the biggest shopping festival in the world.”
