Katy Perry reveals she pretended to be Zooey Deschanel to get into clubs before she was famous

Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel have long been confused for each other. And the two played up that joke in Perry's newest music video for "Not the End of the World" from her album "Smile."

But that wasn't the first time Perry has taken advantage of the similarity between the two stars' looks, she revealed in an Instagram Live with Deschanel on Monday night.

"I have to admit something, Zooey," Perry said. "When I came to LA I was pretty much a nobody and you were like just getting so huge at that time. It was like Zooey Deschanel ran the world at that particular moment."

Deschanel's star was rising, Perry added, and Perry's wasn't quite as high in the galaxy yet. Perry was flattered by the initial comparison between their looks.

"When I first got to LA I went to the club a lot," Perry continued. "I wanted to get into the club and I had no money and I had no clout — I had nothing. And sometimes I would pose as you to get into the club."

Turns out, Deschanel already knew. People had been approaching her saying that they had seen her out partying in spite of the fact that she was not. But she wasn't upset by Perry's revelation. In fact, she was pleased when she finally met the person who was identified as her lookalike.

"When I met you I was so relieved, because you're so pretty," Deschanel said. "You never know when people say you look like somebody, and I was like 'oh my gosh she's gorgeous, thank you, compliment.' "

In the music video – which is not set in the club – released Monday, Perry's doppelgänger, Deschanel, is reading the "Smile Times" a nod to Perry's album title. All the while, aliens watch her, one asking the other, "Are you sure that's her?"

"Duh," replies the other before the video sweeps to a shot of Perry walking with a baby carriage.

Uh oh. It's happening again this time not without consequence.

This case of mistaken identity brings Deschanel to a spaceship where she is greeted by a group of fan-girling aliens that welcome her warmly, applauding "Katy" as Deschanel steps out, confused.

Despite Deschanel's claims of a misunderstanding, the aliens bring "Katy" to their leader who tells her that she has been saved from the Earth which is set to self destruct in less than an hour (which, who knows, with the way 2020 has gone).

She's slotted by the aliens to perform Perry's "Not The End of the World" in concert and agrees to.

Taylor Swift buried the hatchet with Perry with a literal olive branch in 2018, praised the video's concept on Twitter Tuesday.

"THIS IS GENIUS," Swift wrote, along with a GIF of Deschanel waving her arms.//END OF NEW

Perry, who was featured only briefly in her music video walking with a baby carriage, gave birth to her daughter in August and the "Daisies" superstar had been not-so-subtly hinting at the newborn's name for months: Daisy Dove Bloom.

Perry and fiancé Orlando Bloom, who are both Goodwill Ambassadors for the United Nations Children's Fund, let UNICEF introduce their bundle of joy to the world, though they didn't provide details of the birth.

"We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter," the proud parents said in an exclusive statement to the United Nations agency.
