Rockstar Alice Cooper's facade may not hint that he's a family man, but he and his wife, Sheryl Goddard, have a love story for the ages.

Cooper and Goddard have been married for nearly 50 years. The pair wed in March 1976, just a few years after they fatefully met through their work, with Goddard having played a variety of roles in Cooper's stage show.

"It's almost hard to do the show without her," Cooper told Billboard in 2019, decades after the pair started working together. "It's almost like Burns and Allen; we're backstage putting makeup on, talking, laughing."

So, who is Alice Cooper's wife? Here is everything to know about Sheryl Goddard and her relationship with the rock signer.

She is a dancer

Goddard was once a self-described "classical snob," as she had trained in ballet in New York City.

"I knew I couldn't be a ballerina, but not because I didn't have potential," she told PEOPLE in 1978. "Ballet was extremely vicious, political and narrow-minded."

Despite training in classical dance, Goddard moved on to stylized dance and became a choreographer.

Goddard said she had never heard of Cooper until she accepted an invitation to audition for his show. She signed on for the role to pay the bills, as rock and roll was not her genre of choice at the time.

Goddard eventually joined Cooper on tour as a dancer for the Welcome to My Nightmare show in 1975. While on the road, they started as TV-watching pals. After a while, the pair began a romantic relationship and married soon afterward.

In the years since, their relationship has blossomed, both on- and offstage.

"We've both been in show business all our lives," Cooper told Billboard. "When we're onstage, she's not Sheryl, my wife. She's the character and I'm the character. We don't look at each other as husband and wife onstage. But the great thing is, afterwards, we're on tour. We're never apart. It's great."

The pair's eldest child, daughter Calico Cooper, was born on May 19, 1981. She followed in her parents' footsteps and is a multi-talented artist who sings, acts and directs. Calico even helped choreograph for her father's tour celebrating his 21st album, Brutal Planet. In 2015, she married Jed Williams, according to Hello!.

Alice and Goddard's second child, Dashiell "Dash" Cooper, was born on June 3, 1985. Dash is also a musician through his band CO-OP. He and his wife, Morgan Cooper, have three kids.

Sonora is the couple's youngest, born in 1992. Despite her siblings' involvement in the arts, Sonora has stayed out of the entertainment industry entirely, although it's unknown what she does for a living. She is married to Diego Diaz, and in 2020, Alice told Cleveland.com, "My daughter (Sonora) is going to have a baby in July."

For many years, Alice suffered from alcoholism, which took a toll on his marriage; Goddard even filed for divorce due to the strain in their relationship. However, she was always determined to get him back on the wagon, and the pair reconciled once the rockstar got sober.

"He was not going anywhere except down," Goddard once recalled to PEOPLE. "He was never really drunk, but he just couldn't function — he was like a living vegetable. It put a lot of strain on me because I had to sign the papers to commit him."

Alice spent time at New York State Hospital rehabilitation center in White Plains, N.Y. "He couldn't get out," Goddard said, "without my written consent."

Alice and Goddard made headlines in 2019 for potentially having a "death pact." However, Cooper set the record straight about his marriage on social media.

"Sheryl and I do NOT have a death pact, we have a LIFE pack," he wrote on Instagram. "We love life so much. What I was meaning was that because we're almost always together, at home and on the road, that if something did happen to either of us, we'd most likely be together at the time. But neither of us has a suicide pact. We have a life pact. And, besides, I'm booked through 2028, so …"

He clarified his comments further in an interview with Billboard.

"They like to sensationalize everything," the musician said. "They said, 'What happens if one of you dies?' and I said, 'Oh, that'll never happen. We've always talked about the fact we'll go together, in an airplane or ... If I walk down the street and get hit by lightning, she'll die too because of the fact she's right next to me.' The next thing you know, the paper comes out and it goes, 'Alice's Death Pact With Wife!' "

After nearly 50 years of marriage, Alice and Goddard are often asked about the secret of their relationship. Alice said that being each other's home is the most important part.

When asked during a 2016 interview what has kept them strong over the last half-century, the rocker responded: "People ask me, they say, 'When you go on the road, it must be hard leaving home.' I go, 'I bring home with me.' Because really, a house is a house, but a home is who you are with in the house."
