Last year, the headlines were fraught with A-list celebrity breakups that were often quite contentious. However, there are a few stars who like to keep their splits as amicable as possible, like Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth, and Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet. Now, it’s time to add Ali Wong and her ex-husband Justin Hakuta to that list.

The Beef star filed for divorce in December 2023 after announcing her separation to her fans on April 10, 2022. The original court documents obtained by RadarOnline revealed that the couple had a prenuptial agreement, and they were seeking joint legal and physical custody of their two daughters, Mari, 8, and, Nikki, 6. Wong and Makuta married in 2014 and split eight years later due to “irreconcilable differences.” The case is now settled, and it seems that they are both holding true to Wong’s words when she told The Hollywood Reporter that “we’re really, really close; we’re best friends.” She added, “We’ve been through so much together. It’s a very unconventional divorce.”

That unconventional divorce was on display at the Golden Globes in January when she emotionally thanked Hakuta from the podium after her win. “I really need to thank the father of my children and my best friend Justin for all of your love and support. It’s because of you that I’m able to be a working mother,” she said gratefully. She elaborated about her shoutout to her ex later that evening to Entertainment Tonight. “I like to keep it peaceful and grateful and amicable,” she said honestly.

The Baby Cobra comedian sparked an on-again, off-again romance with Bill Hader beginning in late 2022. They briefly broke up and resumed their romance in April 2023. In her recent Netflix Is a Joke Fest set, the 42-year-old star shared that her divorce brought her lots of interest from men, so she didn’t need any dating apps. “I didn’t expect the news of my divorce to be so widespread and public. I didn’t realize that all of these media outlets were acting like a bat signal letting all potentially interested men know,” she said. “I’ve never been pursued this much in my life.”

Hader was one of those men who was pretty open about the “crush” he had on her. His approach was straight to the point. “‘Hey, I just happened to hear the news about your divorce, and I’ve had a crush on you forever,'” she recalled Hader told her. “‘I actually told my best friend years ago that you were my dream girl and I know it sounds crazy, but I want you to be my girlfriend.'” That dating strategy worked out well for the Barry star, who has his dream girl.
